Matthew 12:30-32
"He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. And so I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. Anyone who speaks a word against the son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come."
While I was doing my qt today, I had like 2-3 different passages that stood out to me but I wanted to share this one in particular. Why? God is always loving and forgiving of our sins yet there is ONE condition to all of that: NEVER speak against the Holy Spirit. Basically, it is saying we can ignore and choose to disobey anything or everything that has to do of man but anything of God, we must ultimately always obey. It gets me thinking...how many times did I ignore the Holy Spirit when it asked me to do something? I didn't realize how foolish I must have been to ignore God's will placed upon me. And this could apply to a lot of us because we often place our man-made decisions and needs before what God would want for us. In the side note section of my bible it says : "Jesus gave solemn warning in these verses to people whose hard-heartedness placed them on the brink of disaster. Blasphemy against the Spirit evidently is not just a one-time offense; rather, it is an ongoing attitude of rebellion-a stubborn way of life that continually resists, rejects and insults God's Spirit. This is what makes it, in effect, an eternal sin."
When we KNOW something is bad for us, I think that's the Holy Spirit telling us it's bad! Yet so many times we choose not to break those bad habits and live on ignoring what God has placed in our hearts. It's like I am putting ear muffs from God's voice pretending I didn't hear anything. This passage makes me want to take action right away. I would not want to be a Christian that "continually resists" the holy spirit because there is nothing more hurtful to God's eyes than sinning knowing the sin.
Enjoyed this one.
ReplyDeleteI think this is relatable to what we talked about yesterday in small group about tithing and how hard it is to just give 10% of our TIME instead of money. Sad how hard it is for us to give to God. And how hard it is to just NOT sin.
Great post Michaelangelo
I really liked this post too, and I'm reminded of how important it is to repent and approach God daily, so that the resistance against the Holy Spirit doesn't build up in our lives, and we can start new daily despite the mistakes we make throughout the day.
