"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. when a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."
-when I read this, I thought it was strange how the man found it, then hid it again. why?
But i guess it makes sense, because he wanted to ensure that no would else would take it before he could secure it. What did he do to make sure that treasure became his? "sold all he had and bought that field." Now the treasure rightfully belongs to him because it's on his land
i noticed that the man didn't receive the treasure (become part of the kingdom of heaven) just because he discovered it. Even though he found it and knew about it, it didn't belong to him... knowledge/belief by itself isn't enough
it became his only after he sold everything in exchange for it. he had to take deliberate action to make sure it became his, and by selling everything for it, he showed that he considered it the most important thing.
and lastly, i noticed that he does this all willingly, "in his joy"
check: are my actions today directed by the "treasure" i have found? if not, what is holding me back? and if so, am i doing it joyfully?
I really like this a lot because it touches upon the fact that "knowing" is not enough and our actions must follow through with what we know. ACTION! i like how you highlighted that word. I feel like if we want to be whole-hearted believers of christ, we need to act upon our belief rather than just praying and "hoping for a change." I do believe in miracles and that God will work in inexplicable ways, but that doesn't give us an excuse to just give excuses and rely on prayer/belief alone. I don't know, that's just my opinion. Gracious mucho for sharing. i'm bad at spanish :)
ReplyDeleteI definitely think prayer is important (*ahem michael) hahah but yes, so is taking action when possible!
ReplyDeleteI really love this post, because it reminds me that I'm not a believer just because I say I am and do the routine that many christians do, but I'm a believer when I actively seek God and do his will - willingly and with joy!
Thanks for the reminder lauren!
